If your character does not own a horse, here are the horses owned by Aldhelmsted that they are welcome to use for hacks, lessons, casual riding and competitions.
Geldings
Name: Crickwen Dylan
Breed: Welsh Cob
Height: 14.2hh
Colour: Bay
Age: 6
Personality: Dylan is only young and still has quite an inquisitive nature. He rides very well and is only used with more experienced riders due to his soft mouth. He is a fantastic jumper, though can sometimes be scared by colourful poles or unusual fences. Dressage is his weakest discipline, as he has only just finished growing he is not totally aware of the position of all his limbs. He is, however, improving steadily. Aldhelmsted'll make an eventer of him yet!
History: Dylan often seems to end up lame. He was originally owned by a breeder with a keen interest in showing. Due to his recurring injury, he was deemed unsuitable and sold on. With the right treatment, Jenny has reduced the problem and it is now much less of an issue.

Name: Redspin, known as Red or Monkey
Breed: Thoroughbred
Height: 16.1hh
Colour: Bay
Age: 10
Personality: Monkey either likes or hates certain people. He has a mad spidery jump and is not technically a strong showjumper or cross country ride, though his speed tends to make up for that. He clears things by miles even if his jump is horrible to sit to. His dressage is also weak, due to him having a lot more leg than he needs.
History: Monkey, a stringy thoroughbred, used to be a racehorse. He did well but had to be reitred due to injury. He was bought by Aldhelemsted and is now being used as a riding school horse. He'll never be a perfect horse, but he's good fun to ride and a challenge for more experienced students.

Name: Duncan
Gender: Gelding
Breed: Unknown
Height: 17.1hh
Colour: Black
Age: 7
Personality: Although towering over most riders, Duncan has a heart to match. Since he was only broken-in last year, he is pretty green at all disciplines, but dressage is his worst. Although willing to please, he can become a little too excited and throws in the odd buck or two when he can.
History: Duncan was sold as a yearling with his half-brother Dennis. Both were high-spirited and unbroken, although, Duncan was the calmer of the two. With persistent training from both students and staff, Duncan has quietened down considerably since their arrival. He hates to be separated from Dennis so he has to be stabled and turned out with him, otherwise, you’ll have a Duncan sized tantrum on your hands.
~
Name: Dennis
Gender: Gelding
Breed: Unknown
Height: 17.3hh
Colour: Dark Bay
Age: 7
Personality: Although he is the taller of the two, Dennis is certainly the naughtiest. He had done everything from jumping out of his field, to demolishing the entire contents of the feed room. He is quieter in the saddle and works best when told what to do, meaning that, although still poor, his dressage is his best discipline. When left to his own devices on the cross country course, Dennis runs wild, bucking, rearing, and barging through fences and the like.
History: Dennis was sold as a yearling with his half-brother Duncan. Both were unbroken, although Dennis was the most highly-strung of the pair. We are pretty sure he has some Thoroughbred in him, as his track time is close to that of a professional racer. Despite his winning looks, there are few who will attempt the ride, preferring the safer feel of Duncan.
~
Name: Buttons
Gender: Gelding
Breed: Connemara X
Height: 14.1hh
Colour: Dark bay
Age: 6
Personality: Despite his seemingly innocent nature and manner, Buttons has a mean streak to cancel out all good-hearted moments and general willingness to please. He’s wild and reckless, fiercely protective of his personal space and resents ever being broken with a ferocious passion inflicted on any who attempt to ride him. Quite often, his bark is worse than his bite and he actually quite enjoys some disciplines, especially Showjumping and cross country, but he’s not such a fan of dressage. Buttons likes to test his rider’s skill before allowing himself to work well with him.
History: Bought from a horse sale by a rich business man for his daughter for his natural innocent stance and good looks. Buttons was broken and schooled by some of the most established riders in Europe, but to no avail. He resented being ridden and was constantly flooring the girl foolish enough to not see past the liquid chocolate eyes. In the end, he was shipped off to the other end of the country, a ‘for sale’ sticker already on him. He was given to a dealer with strict instructions to sell him whatever it took. For a large sum of money, the dealer happily obliged. Buttons was sold to Aldhelmsted as the perfect child’s pony, excellently suited for teaching beginners to ride.

Name: Sundance
Gender: Gelding
Breed: Unknown
Height: 14.1hh
Colour: Palamino
Age: 5
Personality: Sundance is a very sweet, obliging gelding. He has extravagant paces and a neat carriage that's perfect for dressage. On the ground he's gentle, but has been known to turn on other horses. He was broken late and so has not yet begun jumping, but Jenny is determined to find the right little rider to help bring him on in that aspect.
History: Sundance was an accidental foal, and due to the mare being underfed during pregnancy due to the belief she was just fat, didn't grow to his full potential in the womb. His owners were horrified and so over pampered him as a foal, which thankfully didn't spoil him. He was broken for their younger daughter but unfortunatly due to finances had to be sold. Jenny recognised a bargain and snapped him up quickly.
Name: Gatecrasher
Gender: Gelding
Breed: Thoroughbred
Height: 16hh
Colour: Chestnut
Age: 6
Personality: Gatecrasher was trained as a racehorse, but, as most are, was too slow. Or too crazy. One of the two. He's said to have won a few races, but his history's a bit shady. One thing is for sure: he loves to run. Give him an open space and he bolts. He's another jump demolisher, and asking him for an outline is like asking a cat to bark. Dressage is beyond him. On the ground he's quite mellow, though can get excited over slight, strange things.
History: Gatecrasher has some unknown racing breeding, in vain hope that he would come of something. But the lines failed and Gatecrasher didn't cut it as a racehorse. He was pulled off the track, attempted to be schooled, but then sold cheap as chips when he went 'silly'. He was then bought off some dodgy dealer by Itch's father, and hasn't lived up to the expectations, thus donated like Sally-Ann when the twins left the school.

Mares
Name: Goldrush (Known as Goldie or Gold)
Gender: Mare
Breed: British Riding Pony X
Height: 13.2hh
Colour: Palomino
Age: 13
Personality: Goldrush can be quite a frisky little madam, although in the hands of an experienced rider, she is calm and collected. She does well at dressage, taking the competitions by storm. Her cross country, however, has much to be desired. Collected as she may be, Goldie still tends to rush fences, only leaving a matter of seconds to gain her bearings. This often results in a few poles being knocked.
History: A county showing sensation like Goldrush would hardly belong at a boarding school such as Aldhelmsted. But her owners decided to sell her after a few behavioural problems were discovered. Due to being over-travelled, Goldie was often aggressive in the stable and sometimes refused to be caught. With no time to straighten her out, the owners sold her as ‘a pony with character’. Little did anyone know about her true nature. But the considerable lack of travelling has calmed her, although, she’ll still take a chunk out of anyone who steps into her personal space.
~
Name: Rio
Gender: Mare
Breed: Thoroughbred
Height: 16.2hh
Colour: Chestnut
Age: 9
Personality: Rio was a sweet gentle giant, calm and unflappable with whoever rode her, until sold on to a riding school. The mare was turned from sweet to sour, hating humans. She wasn't abused, just over worked and under appreciated. No one spent any real time with her, just slung tack on and rode off. Although mellowed now she still has a vicious streak in her though, and will take a lump out of your arm if you surprise her. Her best discipline is showjumping, her worst dressage. She has been called a one rider horse, liking a soft approach to work. Tell a gelding, ask a mare and ask a chestnut mare if they'd possibly consider has never been more true. Rio has no aversion to chucking you if you annoy her.
History: Seen as an ideal ride for beginners learning to jump, anyone was plonked on her. As a result she became dead in the mouth and too the leg, nipping and kicking. Jenny stumbled across her in a sales and took pity on her, having been told her past. She had a year and a half off untouched and was brought back in and re-broken, and has proven better than she was.
~
Name: Chimney Sweep (Sweep)
Gender: Mare
Breed: Thoroughbred
Height: 16.3hh
Colour: Bay
Age: 6
Personality: Sweep is a very flighty mare, something which has gotten her in trouble. Something often catches the mares eye and she will just bolt, not caring about the consequences. It's safe not to interfere until a safe distance away. As she gets matures and gets introduced to more the bolting is getting less frequent - but still unnerving when she does it. Due to her spookiness Sweep has a massive, careful jump, fearful of touching poles. This makes showjumping her best and worst discipline, as she will never touch a pole, but sometimes her courage will fail and she'll refuse the spookier fences. Jenny finds it easier to be very quiet on the mare, and not react to her spooking. On the ground Sweep is a little more confident, but flinches at every loud noise and will refuse to walk past anything that flaps. She's also really naughty about being caught from the field.
History: She was destined for the racetrack but bolted once, running straight through a fence, damaging a ligament in her leg. The race track vet made sure she was sound, and then training went on. However she refused to go into the start gates no matter what they tried. She was then sold on to a girl who produced her into an eventer. Jenny taught the girl, fell in love with the mare, and then when the girl decided to sell her due to her spooking, Jenny bought her for the school, deciding she'd be a nice competition mare.

Name: Spirit
Gender: Mare
Breed: Thoroughbred
Height: 16.2hh
Colour: Grey
Age: 6
Personality: Spirit was so named because of her very fiesty spirit. Despite suffering abuse in her life, Spirit's not wary of humans. Instead she embraces them, loving every second of their company. She loves to be groomed and fussed. Under saddle she has quite expressive paces, but needs to learn a little more self carriage to improve on dressage. She takes cross country a storm, but needs work on her showjumping and being taught to slow down and think about her feet. Jenny encourages a lot of gridwork and twists and turns to try and engage her brain more when being ridden.
History: Spirit was abused when she was a youngster. As a result she was headshy, but from careful work is now less so. Jenny believes it was because she's a very eager mare, always sticking her nose into everybodys business. She was taken from her breeders into a unofficial sanctuary where she was reschooled. Then she was advertised for rehoming, preferably where she'd get a lot of attention. ABS was vetted by the santuary and approved, and Spirit was rehomed. Aldhelmsted was also put on the rehoming list in hope that a few more free horses would come their way!
Name: Sally-Ann
Gender: Mare
Breed: Connemara cross
Height: 15hh
Colour: Dun
Age: 7
Owner: Flint
Personality: Sally-Ann is probably the worst horse you could want. She doesn't jump jumps, she flattens them. Unfortunatly, for precise, accurate Flint, this isn't the best of things to do. He's trying to train her out of it, but so far nothing has worked. The mare tends to fall on her face alot, and trip, too. Her worst disipline is showjumping, accuracy just not being her thing. She can have her good days and her bad, her bad being the most frequent.
History: Sally originally belonged to a boy, Freddie Anson, who originally came here but left as he lost interest in riding. Sally's had quite a simple life, homebred from a connemara mare, broken at 4. She's done a bit of this and that, been passed from hand to hand until Flint's dad ended up with her, sold with the promise of being an excellent mare. She quickly didn't live up to expectations, and when Flint left his dad was more than happy to donate her to the school.
