Welcome to Aldhelmsted Boarding School.
We are an RPG based around the idea of a horse orientated boarding school in the North of England. We aim to create a large community of horse loving people who can enjoy telling a shared story through role play. Please read and take note of these rules. Users who repeatedly break these rules will be suspended from posting for a minimum of one day.
1. We will not tolerate bullying, victimising or "cyber-bullying" towards any member when out of character, or in. Please show respect for other peoples' views and beliefs and also their role playing ability. This game is open to anyone, whether they have experience or not and we will not tolerate any discrimination of any kind. If any members experience this on any part of the forum or even via the private message system please let the admin team know; do not try and deal with these problems yourself. Thank you.
2. Keep it clean. This forum is public (to people over the age of 12) and for that reason, although we are not imposing any strict language rules, please be sensible. Although it is unlikely we will have many members below the age of 12 try not to include anything you wouldn't want a 12 year old to read. If a thread could possibly get out of hand, please put a guideline age in the thread title to warn members who may not wish to read it, e.g. "12+", but please note the maximum age rating is 15 years; any threads that breach that limit (in the opinion of the admins) will be removed from the public area of the forum and placed under 'Censored', which only the admins may access. If you feel your character might swear, you can say "She swore" or "He used word that he wouldn't dare to use in front of a teacher". Be creative, that's part of the fun! Also, to avoid offending any other members, please try to use any religious references of any kind as little as possible.
3. Don't try to admin the admin. We try to run this game fairly and we will listen to your point of view but don't order us about please. We can think for ourselves. We are, however, open to your suggestions and would love to hear your views about the forum so do let us know about anything you think could be improved. Also, don't try and tell us this is nothing like a real boarding school. One of us is at a boarding school and although it's nowhere near as nice as Aldhelmsted it is where the idea for the whole RP came from. So yeah... just be nice to us, we're human too!
4. Here's the rule about accounts. We would like you to create a separate account for each character you play. This means that the display name for your account should be the character's full name, eg John Smith, Marilyn Monroe. If your character has a nickname, feel free to include that, for instance: Amelia "Moo" Jones. Get the idea? When you have created an account, please go to the character board to post your character. You are welcome to then go to the horses board and create your character's horses BUT do not begin to post until your character and their horses have been approved. Please do not create a character with a name similar to that of an existing character (i.e. Isabel and Isabella, Anna and Anne, Alexander and Alexandra) without the permission of an admin and the person who owns the existing character. Nicknames count, too. Check the character list to make sure the name you have chosen is not the same or similar to that of another character. Do this before you create an account, and if there is an existing character with a similar name please message one of the admins for permission. Please note, no characters with realistic names will be approved. Foreign-based names are allowed as long as they are genuinely from a country, as opposed to made-up alien names.
5. We have to re-enforce this - please wait until characters, horses and detailed plot ideas are approved by an admin until you start to play them. That means DO NOT post until the topics have been replied to. This is very important, as we are trying to keep the storyline realistic so that we can have a better game, so the admin team will keep tabs on what's being added into the mix to try and keep up a high standard.
6. There is no rule for account numbers, you may play as many characters as you like, but please don't go overboard! If you won't be online much, one character is all you need; stick to what you feel you can regularly cope with. If that means you can reliably manage 10 characters, then feel free, but please don't create more than you can manage. Also, if you create more than one account, please try to have some gender variety.
7. Avatar and signature images are allowed, but they must be related to your character in the story, not to yourself in real life please. A small image of your character's horse in the game is suitable, or a graphic with your character's name. Please try and keep signature images to no higher than 350 pixels (if you don't know how high it is, right click the images, select properties and the dimensions will be shown there) and no wider than approximately 500 pixels to avoid stretching the page. Text or quotes are allowed, too, but again please keep them relevant to your character.
8. Aldhelmsted doesn't just expect the best from its pupils in the saddle, but in the classroom too. This game is for those who enjoy storytelling and for that reason we expect posts of at least 10 full sentences (this does not include one or two-word sentences), but preferably around 15 sentences, should the post contain a large amount of dialogue. This should mean that threads don't spiral out of control with loads of one line replies. We know this can make having a conversation annoying but it gives you time to really make your characters come to life and use your imagination to write descriptively. Tell us how they are feeling as they say things, how they say things, why they say things, describe their environment and anything else you can think of. There is no upper limit to post length, but please don't make it essay length!
9. Another boring classroom rule! We would like all replies to be written out in full, with proper punctuation and spelling. It makes everything much nicer and easier to understand worldwide. Text language will not be tolerated, as it makes posts difficult to read and follow. Please try to make this forum a great place by making an effort. We know people may have problems spelling, but please do your best. Use the spell check tool if you are in difficulty or are just short of time, it can be found at the bottom of the reply box.
10. Please don't post more than twice until all the members in the thread have posted. This ensures that everyone is able to keep up. Also, no double posting in character please.
Example:
User #1 posts
User #2 posts
User #3 posts
User #2 posts
User #3 posts
User #1 must post before users #2 or #3 may post again
11. Admins do not need to have their bios approved.
12. When creating an account, please be sure to use your birthdate, not your character's. This allows for less confusion.
13. In order to even things out, please do not create more than two characters in the same year or house. Until, of course, you have one in every other year or house.
14. Power-playing is banned. Power-playing happens when you try to control another member's character. Do not do this, whether or not a user gives you permission. Their permission makes no difference to the rules, and won't be accepted as an excuse.
15. Please refrain from RPing between your own characters. If you are bored, join an open thread, or ask someone if they would like to RP with you. The only exception to this is when a plot-line has been approved by the admin team that deals with your characters interacting.
16. Don't glamorise or promote self harm in any way.

These rules will be added to and edited as the admin team see fit. Please check back whenever there is an update.
Thank you for your co-operation,
Mrs KJ ~ Headmistress
