At Aldhelmsted Boarding School we expect high standards of behavior, based upon the values of our foundations.
We value honesty, care for others, respect for self, others, property and the environment.
The rules that follow reflect this code of conduct but also exist to protect and promote the safety and well-being of all members of the school. We expect students to adhere to the rules for the good of the community. School rules apply while students are on the premises, bridleways surrounding the school and if students are representing the school in any other area.
Rules
The following are strictly forbidden:
1. Bullying or victimization
2. Stealing, including borrowing without consent and any improper use of other students’ mobile phones, computers, horses and equine equipment.
3. The possession, use or procurement for sale of illegal drugs or harmful use of solvents.
4. The possession or consumption of alcohol without permission.
5. The possession or use of cigarettes, lighters, matches, fireworks, incense or candles.
6. Leaving the school premises without permission.
7. The willful damage or misuse of the school’s or other pupils’ property, including their horses.
8. Sexual physical contact with others whilst at the school or in the care of the school.
9. Any behavior or actions that put members of the school community at risk.
Secondary Rules
These rules are subject to change at the discretion of the headmistress.
1. Riding may not be practiced after 8.00pm.
2. Students below sixth form may not ride outside school campus alone. This includes bridleways.
3. Students must be inside the main school building from 9.00pm onwards.
4. No students may enter any dormitories of the opposite gender apart from in exceptional circumstances, at the discretion of the house staff.
Sanctions
These will depend upon the particular nature of the circumstances but the likely structure would be:
· First Offence
A letter from the headmistress will be sent to parents, outlining the incident and its significance.
· Second Offence
A week of detentions and a ban from school events and competitions.
· Third Offence
Suspension, followed by a discussion of future attendance of the school.
Lights Out
· 10.00 - Year 9
· 10.30 - Year 10
· 12.00 - Year 11
· 2.00 - Lower Sixth
· No limit - Upper Sixth
